Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian Cancer begins in one or both of the ovaries which are located on either side of the uterus. Both ovaries are only the size of an almond, and are responsible for producing eggs, and releasing them in to the fallopian tubes.

The ovaries are also responsible for producing two female hormones known as estrogen and progesterone. These hormone levels are higher before and during ovulation, and if they become too high it may cause ovarian tumors to form.

There are basically two types of tumors which form in the ovaries: benign tumors (non-cancerous), and malignant tumors (cancerous). The benign tumors do not spread outside of the ovaries, but the malignant tumors will work their way to the outside and eventually spread to other parts of the body. Read More...
