Raw food salads are just as simple to make as any other salad, however, all the ingredients that go into the salad have to be raw. This means that you have to make your own dressings as opposed to using commercially packaged dressings. It might take a few extra seconds to make your own dressing, but this way you can avoid all processed foods and the many health conditions that are associated with them.

The Salad

The list of ingredients that you can use in the salad is endless and you can mix and match your favorite vegetables into any salad. Tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, onions, zucchini and other garden vegetables go great in a garden salad. These vegetables can also be added in with leafy greens, or you can use the greens in a salad by themselves.

You can also make a sweet salad by combining all your favorite fruits. Tropical fruits, such as pineapples, mangoes and kiwi, generally go well in any type of fruit salad. To these fruits, you can also add in other fruits including apples, peaches, pears or grapes. The key is to add in your favorite fruits for optimum enjoyment.

As good as fruit salads are, however, you should always aim to make leafy green or garden salads the main part of your diet. This is because fruits are high in natural sugars, which are not suitable for everyone, especially in large quantities.

The Dressings

At first it might seem daunting to create your own salad dressings, but believe it or not, they are quick and easy to make. They are also quite tasty and all the ingredients are fresh and nutritious.

Some of the most popular ingredients to use in the salad dressings are fresh lemon juice, olive oil and sea salt. They can be mixed together in a light dressing, along with many herbs and spices. That is one of the most simplest dressings and goes with a wide variety of salads.

Other ingredients to use in the salad dressings include herbal infused vinegars or infused oils. The infusion allows you to enjoy the blended flavors of the herbs in a smooth dressing.

Avocados are also a great food to use as part of the salad dressing. They should be ripe, and mashed up before being massaged into the salad greens.

Salad Toppers

Nuts and seeds are always great for topping a salad. They are rich with healthy oils and proteins that help in keeping you full in between meals. Diced avocados are also high in fat and calories and work just as well in any salad.

For leafy green salads, you can use cucumbers, tomatoes and radishes as they make an excellent topping for the greens.
